Class of 2002 Alumni 15 Year Reunion

A small but enthusiastic group of Alumni gathered on Saturday 11 November to reunite and remember their time at Aitken. This very special group of people hold the honour of being the first Year 12 cohort to graduate from the College. For this reason, they will always be remembered fondly, for they were truly ‘pioneers’. They were joined by a small number of current and previous Aitken staff members.

When last this group convened it was five years ago and in the foyer of the Chapel and Performing Arts Centre. At that time, they were overwhelmed by that building and the opportunities it would provide for current students. This time the venue was the ‘newish’ and quite wonderful Food Technology-Hospitality Centre and again they were amazed.

The one constant discussion theme from those ‘pioneering’ students and staff was reference to the MUD and the challenges associated with learning and teaching in what was effectively a construction site. That said, Alumni from this group have gone on to achieve wonderful things personally and professionally. Amongst them are an: aeronautical engineer, primary teacher, marketing executive and film maker to name but a few.

Current members of the Aitken College community can see the bricks autographed by Class of 2002 Alumni which now line the pathway to the Reception building; their names and messages embedded figuratively and literally. These ‘pioneers’ will always be welcomed back.

Aitken College Giving Tree

Each year at Aitken, we have a Giving Tree to gather presents for those in our community who will miss out at Christmas. Each Aitken family is invited to purchase one new present suitable for any school-aged child. Please do not wrap it, and take off any price tag. Place the gift around the Giving Tree which is set up in the Chapel and Performing Arts Centre foyer.

Please consider how wonderful it is to give to others, and know that these small gestures which we can readily afford, really do change lives. You can give as many gifts as you like. Of course, we cannot accept damaged or used gifts. We have done fantastically well in past years. I am sure we can do this again. Presents will be collected at the very end of term, so we have plenty of time to make this a wonderful Christmas event for the Aitken Community. Please contact me at the College if you have any questions.
