Year 12 Class of 2017

Last week we celebrated the Graduation of our Year 12 Class of 2017 at their Valedictory Dinner. This was an opportunity to congratulate each individual student and present them with a certificate and gift on achieving this milestone in their lives and to share memories and thanks. I read to the students an excerpt from the Charles Dickens novel, A Tale Of Two Cities.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us."

I asked the students to reflect on their time at Aitken College; for there will have been for them the best of times and the worst of times; be that in friendships,  studies,  contributions and  experiences. From that it is hoped they will have gained some wisdom.

By three methods, wisdom can be learnt, said Confucious:

“First, by reflection, which is noblest;

Second, by imitation, which is easiest;

and Third by experience, which is the bitterest”

Wisdom involves an integration of knowledge, experience and deep understanding. It incorporates tolerance for the uncertainties of life as well as its ups and downs; that season of Light or that season of Darkness;  the spring of hope and the winter of despair.  It was with this message that the College sent students off to achieve the next milestone in their lives.

Students will receive their results in mid December and we wish them all the best.

Fairview Concert

This week our Prep to Year 2 students presented a wonderful concert.  The children enjoyed performing, showcasing their creativity, enthusiasm and love for the Performing Arts. Each child possesses individual gifts and talents and together, working as a team, brought a wonderful story to their audience; appreciative parents, siblings and grandparents. The opportunity to present on stage helps build confidence and self-discipline.

Parents and Friends Association

The annual general meeting of the Parents and Friends Association will be held on Monday 4 December at 7.30pm.  If you would like to join the committee please come along.
