Le Mana Excursion

CMY arranged a fantastic day out for the Le Mana Group, taking them on a trip to the Melbourne Museum together to learn about Aboriginal and Pasifika culture. We learned about life back on the islands and our ways of life before colonisation.

The students represented the college with pride and enjoyed a game of touch in the park over lunch. In the Pasifika exhibition, a very special moment took place, with members of the public stopping to watch our wonderful students sing a traditional Maori song. It was an awesome experience, all reviews of our students commented on their respectful, kind and positive nature.

Well done to all who came along!

A special mention to Paora Te Paki and Temese Leilua from CMY for their organisation and support of this day.

Le Mana Celebration

On Monday 2nd of December students, staff, community members and families joined the celebration of the work behind the Le Mana Empower Pasifika Program. It was an honour to work with our Pasifika young people for 10 weeks on their journey through the exploration of their culture and identity and to watch the development of their leadership skills.

Congratulations to all involved, you made your families, friends and the school extremely proud.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge of your culture, your experience in the program, some delicious food, and beautiful songs and dances with us. Your professionalism and collaboration was fantastic!

A big thank you to Miss Vanstan, Miss JP, Miss Newton, Ms Shiel, Mr Youssef and Ms Edwards for joining us on the evening.

Peer Support 2020

What a successful week down at Phillip island for the 2020 Peer Support Program. Our Student Leaders did an excellent job, collaborating to design sessions for the Year 7 students to support them in connecting to our college community. We enjoyed the flying fox, movie night, giant swing, canoeing, trivia night archery, raft building and managed to make it to the fit club morning run to the beach after all of that fun. Thank you to all the leaders who attended and gave their time, enthusiasm and full participation. You did an outstanding job and we have no doubt the program will be a success!

Thank you to Mr Passmore, Ms Louden, Mr Christiansen, Mr O'Connor and Ms Jean Pierre. Congratulations leaders, we can’t wait for a fantastic high-quality program next year!

Health/Alive Garden Project

The gardening team have been working hard in our college values program ALIVE this term in Year 8 Health. Students have been working with Miss Louden and Mr Knowles on the planning and development of two key areas in the school, working collaboratively to negotiate a budget, order plants and get the garden ready to grow fruit and vegetables for our community. Fantastic work so far, the gardens are looking fantastic and we appreciate all the hard work and commitment you have shown throughout the program.

Memorial Tree

Thank you to Marcus Jonassen-Hammond, Izack Faumuina and Wilson Kennar for your assistance with the preparation for the memorial tree. We appreciate your efforts and thank you for your kindness and positivity in this process.

Student Voice Team Presentation

This month students have been involved in working alongside staff to unpack and discuss the Attitudes to School Survey Data. This survey is issued in every state school in Victoria and assists us in determining new ways of improving. Staff were so impressed in the lead up, with students showing professionalism and high-level collaboration to find the story behind the data and organise their speeches and information to share to improve our learning community. Thank you for your time, commitment, teamwork and delivery to staff. You did an outstanding job and your voice has provided valuable insight to all.

Elite Rugby

Students selected for the 2020 Elite Rugby Program have given their voice and designed their game day jerseys for 2020. All students put forth brilliant ideas, working together to completely redesign and negotiate the uniform for the program. Thank you to all students involved for your contributions. We look forward to these being developed and seeing you look fantastic on the field next year!

Carnival Day Dec 16th

What a way to end the school year!

Students and staff enjoyed themselves on our final day of school this week, with inflatable rides, a petting zoo, a disco, an art and games corner and non-stop fun and games in the gym all day.

Our bellies were full from the food trucks and of course, music, good company and laughs were a plenty.

To our brave staff on the dunking machine, and everyone who got involved,  well done and thank you for your support and engagement in a great day.

A special thank you to Mr Marks and Ms Vanstan for their organisation of this day, it was a fantastic celebration for everyone.

2019 Student Engagement Wrap Up

What a busy time of year it has been for our students and staff with all cylinders firing until the very end. From =Peer Support camp, Student Voice presentations, new Elite Sports programs, the Model UN, AIME and everything in between, it has been a fantastic year.

So a little recap,  the staff won the 2019 Staff vs Students Competition, the students have been exposed to new leadership opportunities and programs, and we can safely say that student voice is alive and well at HP!

Thank you to staff and students for your support of internal and external programs, extra-curricular activities and for your positive contributions to our community. HPSC certainly is a special place and there is something for everyone.

I am looking forward to seeing what new and exciting opportunities 2020 brings for us.
