Principal's Report

It has been an honour and a privilege to have led our learning community this year.

As another busy school year draws to a close, I wish to thank all staff and students for your work throughout the year. This year as the new Principal of Hampton Park Secondary College, I have spent significant time speaking to students, staff and parents about the opportunities for improvement.

Education visionary Sir Ken Robinson states, “We have to go from what is essentially an industrial model of education, a manufacturing model, which is based on linearity and conformity and batching people. We have to move to a model that is based more on principles of agriculture. We have to recognize that human flourishing is not a mechanical process; it's an organic process. And you cannot predict the outcome of human development. All you can do, like a farmer, is create the conditions under which they will begin to flourish.”

Next year, we will work hard to create optimal conditions in which learners can thrive, as we aim for our college to be the secondary school of first choice for local families. Our world is changing at a level never been seen before. Technology, globalisation, automation is changing our workplaces. Education must prepare students with skills that will best prepare them for these challenges. The skills of creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills are vitally important.

I am proud to say that at Hampton Park Secondary we are changing our approach.  By enabling students to explore their passions and be appropriately challenged, we aim to improve engagement and take learning to a whole new level. I am proud of the work of our staff, as this year they have responded to student requests for new and exciting learning opportunities. I am excited to say that we now offer more than 100+ subjects to engage and challenge our students.

Thank You

Senior School Results

I am pleased to report that many of our senior students achieved excellent results and we are extremely proud.

In the area of VCE we had two students achieving at ATAR in the 90’s with Kon Kinias our DUX achieving 90.05. A Year 11 student Faisal Karim achieved a perfect score of 50 for Software Development. This is an amazing result! We are immensely proud of your work and knowledge the wonder support of our teaching staff.

I also wish to acknowledge Cain Stansfield who was awarded our VCAL DUX Award for 2019. Cain has demonstrated an exemplary attitude not only this year but throughout his VCAL journey. He has produced work of an exceptional standard and has been a model to other students and an ambassador to the VCAL pathway.

At HPSC, we recognise that senior school success takes many different forms. This can range from obtaining a high ATAR, being accepted into a chosen university or TAFE course, being offered an apprenticeship, or even being the first in the family to complete secondary school. It is important to consider the value that we are adding to student achievement.

The media often portrays a very narrow view of success, often with a sole focus on the ATAR result. With the rise of mental health issues in our community and in young people, we need to reduce the emphasis on the ATAR. There are many meaningful pathways available for young people to achieve their goals.  I would like everyone to challenge the often very narrow measure of success.

Please take the time to read some of our many Senior School success stories for 2019. We are a very proud learning community.

2020 Mobile Phone Policy

Please note, as per DET guidelines, students must adhere to the new Mobile Phone Policy that will come into effect from the start of 2020.

Kurt Fearnley’s visit

Recently, we were honoured to have Paralympian and NSW Australian of the Year for 2019 Kurt Fearnley visit our college. Kurt spoke about taking risks, following your passion and overcoming obstacles. Kurt's visit was part of our celebration of individuality and was part of recognition of the International Day for People with a Disability.

Kurt is an inspiration to all. With a ‘can do’ combined with perseverance and determination, one can achieve almost anything.

Young Lives Matter - Remembering a past student

Recently, staff and former students came together to remember past student Shannon Juriansz, who was tragically killed as a result of a motor vehicle accident. A tree was planted in Shannon’s memory and Shannon's family, friends and staff gathered to share fond memories at a BBQ. Although Shannon was taken as a result of an accident, Shannon’s family and friends are keen to remind all of us all to

  • Eliminate distractions
  • Always wear a seatbelt<
