Bottle Tops for Charity

Helping the Environment and Supporting a Great Cause – Envision Hands

In grades 5 and 6 this term, students have been exploring the concept of sustainability in their integrated studies unit. Our focus has been looking at the features of designing and building sustainable houses, however many of our discussions have revolved around creating a sustainable world in general. Specifically, the children in 5P have shown a genuine interest and concern in regards to the use of most plastics as a non-biodegradable and non-renewable material. They have shown a passion about ensuring we make good choices for a sustainable future and are learning about the importance of making a difference.

To support the children’s passion and inquiry, we are helping an organization called ‘Envision Hands’  who are tackling a worldwide waste issue by using recycled bottle tops to build prosthetic limbs (hands and arms) for children in need. 5P would like to reach out to the wider school community and ask for your help in collecting bottle tops. If you have any donations, please pop them into the tub at the office foyer. Thank you for your support!

Here are some comments from the students of 5P about supporting this great cause:
