Facts and Details

This week in classes across our school we are focusing on recalling facts and details to help us understand what we are reading. Facts and details tell more about the main idea of a text. Questions about facts and details ask us about something that we have read.

Students have been learning that a fact is something that is true and gives them information about a specific topic. Details explain in greater depth more about the fact, making it clearer and telling us more about it.

Facts and details can be found everywhere, in every subject. In Numeracy, students have been looking at identifying facts about three dimensional shapes and then using details to describe and explain the features of those shapes. In Writing, we have been using facts and details to write procedural texts that others can follow. In Theme, students have brainstormed a range of facts and details associated with different modes of transport used throughout the ages.

Recalling facts and details is an important strategy to master as it helps us to further our knowledge and understanding of the world around us.
