LITERACY NEWS - HOLIDAY READING
We understand that your child’s reading is important so in lieu of take home readers there are several programs that you can use at home in the next few weeks and over January and we do encourage this.
- BIG Summer Read (as mentioned in our school newsletter last week) - The Big Summer Read is run by the State Libraries and is a fun way to maintain skills taught during the school year. You can also register to track the titles read using The Beanstack app. Click here for more details.
- Read with your child regularly. You can borrow books from your local library and co-read with them.
- There are a multitude of websites with fun literacy based activities. Some examples of these are: ABCya - Please note this website does not work on iPad’s. EPIC - Please note that the students do have an Epic Class code however these codes only work during school hours. We believe parents can registered with Epic for a free parent account, however this will only allow your child to read 1 book a day.
- Keep a diary of what is happening during the holidays, read this to someone in the family.
- Visit the local library, children will enjoy this experience and it’s free!
