News and Notices

From the Principal

I feel as if I have gone blink blink and we have gone from the begnning of term to the end of the school year.  I am so thankful for the number of activities that we have managed to pack into this term, and can confidently say that it has been a busy, but happy term.

We are aware that our children are tired as they come to the end of the first full school year in a while. We are encouraging them to be respectful and make good choices.

There are a number of important events coming up over the next two weeks.

Money Making Market Day

This year our Market Day will be held on Wednesday 7 December at 3.15pm. The children will set up their stalls during school time and then start selling their goods once the brass bell rings.

If the weather looks unsettled, we will hold the market inside the classrooms.

All students are expected to be at school for the market day. They can bring their money to school in a named envelope or plastic bag and we will keep it in the office for them until after school. We do encourage you to invite your friends and neighbours, and come along and support us. We will be selling butter chicken and rice, nachos, and sausages, so you could grab a take away for dinner.

Prizegiving

Our prizegiving will be held on Tuesday 13 December at 6pm. We will have a short ceremony, and then we invite eveyone to bring a picnic and eat on our beautiful school grounds. We will also be cooking sausages and selling these along with some drinks. (It would be great if some parents could man the bbq.) If the weather is good, I will open the pool for an hour for those who wish to have a swim.

Children should be at school, wearing their full school uniform.

Supersoaker Day

On Wednesday 14 December, our Year 5 and 6 students go to Parakai for the day. Our Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 students will have a supersoaker day. We will put on the hosepipe and fill containers so that the children can spray each other with water. They can bring any sort of thing that sprays. We do have "rules" about what is and isn't allowed and the children usually have great fun. They will obviouly need their togs and I always advise them to bring two towels.

End of Term

Our final day of term is Thursday 15 December. We finish school at 12pm. We have our clapping out ceremony at 11.50am and I would encourage everyone to come along and farewell our Year 6s by lining up and clapping as they leave the school.

Some Year 6s may wish to have the community sign their school shirt. Please coculd you communicate clearly whether or not you are happy for your child to do this.

We will be selling ice-cream sandwiches on this day as well - another fine RidgeView tradition. The ice-creams are $2 each and an order form will come home for these.

We love Planet Earth!

I am sure you will have heard about our Term 4 Inquiry. Our students really saw themselves as changemakers and had wonderful, creative ideas to help our planet. They planted indigenous trees and flax, made bird houses and a bug hotel, designed a game, made posters, put out bins to separate rubbish, created wasp traps and planted terrariums. There was such a buzz in the school and it was wonderful to see our little ones making and creating.

Gymnastics

What a great day out! I am still not sure whether the children were more excited about the bus ride or the visit to the gymnasium. We were so stoked to see all our children having a go and having a great time.

Athletics Day

We had a wonderful athletics day with all the children able to have a go at a variety of athletics activities. Thank you so much to all the parents who came along to help and support.

Inter-school Athletics

We took a team of twelve athletes to Inter-school athletics at Kristin. Our children did very well and were wonderful at supporting each other.

Murals

We have been working on our murals to hang on our black fence. This has turned into a huge project that has taken a lot of time, but it will certainly be worthwhile. Fingers crossed that we will be able to have these on show at prize- giving. A special thank you to Lucy who has worked with the children on creating these.

 Yummy Stickers

We need to give a huge thank you to the good people at Yummy Stickers. This year we received netball bibs, a sack of balls, a cricket set, some bean bags and some little cones. This makes such a huge difference for our little school.

Please continue ro collect Yummy Stickers and bring them into school.

Basketball 2023

I am starting early on my annual plea for a parent who would be keen to manage a basketball team in 2023. The games are currently at East Coast leisure Centre in Browns Bay on a Friday afternoon. We have a number of children who would love to be part of a basketball team. (And we have brand new uniforms!)

Old Mobile Phones and iPads

We are still on the lookout for old phones and iPads.
