STEM & Kitchen Garden

STEM and KITCHEN

Students have been very excited to start STEM and Kitchen Garden Sessions.

Students are learning about living things in the school yard and beyond. Year 1 and 2 students were introduced to a USB microscope which they will use to study plant specimens in coming weeks.

Foundation students are propagating vegetable and sunflower seeds to plant in our garden which has been totally transformed by parents in last weekend’s working bee. Huge thank you to those parents who helped.

Year 5/6 students have started their Kitchen unit on bread, starting with making naan and accompanying dips. They will progress to yeast bread in the next few weeks. The students have looked at bread from around the world and the history of bread making through the ages.

      Easy Two-Ingredient Naan

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cups self-rising flour, or more as needed
  • 1 cup whole-milk Greek yogurt

Directions

  1. Mix self-rising flour and Greek yogurt together in a large bowl until combined. Transfer to a lightly floured work surface and knead until smooth, adding more flour as necessary to keep dough from sticking, 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Pat dough into a rough 9x7-inch rectangle. Divide into 8 equal pieces. Lightly dust each piece with flour and flatten into a semi-rectangular shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Lightly grease a large skillet and place it over medium heat. Add 1 or 2 of the flattened dough pieces to the skillet. Cook until they begin to bubble and brown, 2 to 4 minutes. Flip over and cook an additional 2 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat and repeat with remaining dough until all pieces are cooked. Serve warm.
