Principals' message

Thank you to all of our students, families and staff for their warm welcome over the past week. It has been great meeting many of you already and I really appreciate the friendliness of everyone in our community. So far I have been very impressed by the lovely children, outstanding staff and wonderful school community at Fitzroy Primary School. In particular I have been struck by how kind and friendly the children are towards each other and I have heard many children inviting others to play and be friends.
I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of the staff in working through the move from the George St building to the Napier St building last year, and all of their work to prepare their classrooms for learning this year.
Volunteer working bee
A huge thank you goes out to the families who came to school on the weekend for a community working bee to improve the grounds. The yard and garden are much more inviting this week and it is clear that a lot of work took place by our families.
Staff Car Parking
As the George St site is now a construction site, the existing staff car park has now been closed to staff. This has presented challenges in provision of safe, secure parking for those staff who drive to school.
The plan moving forward is for some staff to park in the small concrete ‘driveway’ at the rear of the Napier St site (accessed from Young St), some staff to park on the basketball court on the George St site and other staff will now catch public transport instead of driving. I thank all members of our community for their flexibility as we negotiate the building works taking place.
School Uniform and Hats
Families are reminded that students need to be in school uniform each day and to wear uniform appropriate for the weather.
In Term 1 and 4 students are required to wear a hat as part of our Sunsmart policy. Children who are not wearing a hat will be required to stay in the shade during break times.
