RAID Yr 9 Program
RAID - Respect, Achievement, Innovation, Diversity
On the 30th of November, our 2023 year 9s got to try their first day of the RAID program. After a short assembly talking about the importance of representing the school well, being on time and our school values of Respect, Achievement, Innovation and Diversity (RAID) we got stuck in to the activities.
Kristina Diaz, from Dance with Kristina, was already well known to many students as a relief teacher, but surprised us all with her dancing expertise. For anyone who’d like to learn a bit of salsa, she is located in Gisborne and frequently holds events and lessons, find out more at https://dancewithkristina.com/.
Golf Pro Matthew Duncan ran a golf lesson on Gisborne Golf Club’s brand-new driving range. The club is eager to welcome new players, so anyone who took a liking to golf can see about getting more involved at https://www.gisbornegolf.com.au/cms/.
Gisborne Kanga Tours also drove students around the grounds in a golf cart searching for roos. Some groups had more luck than others, but just riding around in the cart alone was fun enough!
Football Victoria ran futsal sessions in the gym, perfect timing for the world cup. Some students astounded me with their foot skills. Anyone interested in pursuing soccer can get in touch with Gisborne Soccer Club at https://www.gisbornesc.com.au/ or Macedon Ranges Futsal (indoor) at https://www.mrfutsal.org.au/home/.
They were allowed to walk down into Gisborne for lunch. As you might’ve guessed McDonalds was quite busy. I’ll encourage more exploration of Gisborne next year.
WOW incursions ran a ‘minute to win it’ competition, activities included trying to get an oreo from their forehead to their mouth without hands, and trying to get all the table tennis balls out of a tissue box strapped to their hips. Good fun!
Over the holidays I recommend students make a start on their ‘RAID’ presentation. At the end of next year they will present to you everything they have done on RAID including photos/videos, descriptions and connections to the school values. So best to work on it progressively throughout the year while it’s fresh in the mind.
