New Dehli Australian Embassy Mural
Rebecca Suarez (class of 2017) has recently collaborated with First Nations artist, Aretha Brown to create a 120 m long mural on the New Dehli Australian embassy’s perimeter wall. The 24 individual vignettes that make up the mural highlight and celebrate the Australia India Dosti relationship. Rebecca and Aretha, who are members of the Melbourne based ‘Kiss my Art Collective’ partnered with Dehli based street and art India Foundation and non-profit organisation Avani art project to construct the mural.
Melbourne Girls’ College has commissioned Rebecca, along with artists Simone Scandrett (class of 2016) and Marnie Florence-McNeil (class of 2021) to create permanent murals in the study rooms in the library. Each study room is named after an inspirational female author. Rebecca’s mural will be a response to the works of Helen Garner. Simone is responding to Margaret Atwood’s works and Marnie’s mural will be a response to the works of Harper Lee. The murals will create study spaces for students which are both inspiring and interesting to work in.

Year 9 Photography
The Year 9 Photography class recently created a task called ‘UNBELIEVABLE ME’.
The goal of the task was to use prior knowledge and creativity to stretch the boundaries of an “unbelievable” image or to create a photo that the viewer is not sure whether it is a “real” photo. Students created an A3 sized image using PIXLAR/Photoshop that is “unbelievable” and included themselves at least once.
Year 7 Alter Ego Task Using Mixed Media
This art task was based on our alter egos. A key part of the task was to use the art elements such as colour, line, texture, tone, shape, and form.
We applied mixed media methods and created an artwork with two different personalities on either side. This was completed on A3 cartridge paper and many techniques like pencilwork, watercolour and collage were used.
As a class, we really enjoyed this task as it was relaxing and fun to complete. You can see this from our creative results, and we hope to inspire future years.
