Principal's Report

As we near the end of the 2022 year, the college takes the time to pause, embrace, and celebrate the achievements of all students this year as we enter the season of end-of-year celebrations.

The final Year 12 VCE exam concluded on Wednesday 16 November. I would like to congratulate our Year 12 students for the way in which they prepared themselves, not just during the exam period but over the course of this busy and challenging final term. We all now wait with a sense of anticipation until the VCE results are published in a few weeks.

Year 10 and 11 students have undertaken their exams over the last two weeks, and I would also like to congratulate them for their dedication and commitment. These weeks are difficult and students at times can feel overwhelmed by the exam bubble. We do know that consistent effort, motivation, and effective study habits make a difference.

On Tuesday 22 November we held our Presentation Evening at Plaza Ballroom. This was the first time in 3 years that we were able to run this event by bringing everyone together. We recognised and celebrated achievement in academic and special awards and had a range of performances in the areas of dance, choir, poetry and film. After the challenges of the last few years, it was wonderful to be able to spend an evening celebrating all students at MGC.  A very big congratulations to our award winners on the night and the wonderful team of staff who made the event possible.

I would like to acknowledge and congratulate Cayenne Lim who has been selected to participate in the Cyber Taipan Young Women’s Career Tour in 2023.  CyberTaipan is an Australian Youth Cyber Defence Competition that is modelled on the US Air Force Association's CyberPatriot program.  This is an exciting opportunity for Cayenne and may inspire her towards further education and  or a career in cyber security and other STEM subjects.

I do want to express my sincerest appreciation and gratitude to the MGC community for the way in which I have been welcomed and supported in my first year as Principal of Melbourne Girls’ College. I have a real sense of pride in leading this outstanding community.

Teaching is an increasingly complex job that, although brings with it many rewards, can be incredibly hectic. Our teachers have given everything this year and I thank them for their work.  I would like to acknowledge our Education Support Staff for their professionalism and dedication to their roles in the college. It is this dedication that provides for the opportunities and successes of our students.

I would also like to recognise and acknowledge the tireless work of our College Council this year for their commitment to our school community. They have been a forward-thinking team who only has the college’s best interest at heart and works in such a supportive way to provide the best possible opportunities for our young people. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with this group of community members this semester.

To our parent and carer community, thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and support.  It has been another challenging year for everyone, made ever more manageable by the dynamic fabric and strong home school partnerships of Melbourne Girls’ College.
