Principal's Report

with Simone Roy

Welcome to the last edition of the newsletter for 2022.

Presentation Evening was held on Wednesday night, returning to a traditional style of event, with guest presenters and families, held at the community centre. The evening started with a bang, with the senior band playing 5 pieces that they had been working on over the year. Ably lead and conducted by Belle Hungerford, it was a fantastic performance and when the music stopped, you could have heard a pin drop!

Numerous awards and certificates were presented to an array of students, and I would like to sincerely thank the community groups and individuals that provided financial support. Without their support, this event would not be possible. Congratulations to all students who were recognised for their efforts at Presentation Evening; I hope that seeing what others have achieved will help to inspire all of our students to do their best, and be the best person they can be, every day, contributing to the wonderful school that we are lucky to be a part of.

To start this big final, full week of school, the Year 12s received their results on Monday.

Congratulations to Justin Borrell! Dux of Mount Beauty Secondary College for 2022, Justin achieved an incredible 93.95 as his ATAR. This amazing result has come from Justin’s hard work throughout his schooling, not just a big effort this year and we are all proud of his achievement. Justin spoke beautifully at Presentation Evening, thanking his family, friends, teachers and the Mount Beauty Lions Club for the Dux award, which will help support him set up for university next year. Thank you also to the Jessie Hollonds Scholarship Fund, for their generous support again this year for students pursuing a university career.

I’d like to congratulate all of our Year 12s for making it though this last year of school, as it is not easy. A score is not the end and should not be used to measure the person you are. We all look forward to hearing about the amazing things each and every one of you are up to in the future.

I’d also like to thank the VCE teachers for all the efforts they have made over the last 2 years, to help support these students to get through. A closer bond seems to develop when you are a VCE teacher, compared to in other years. Perhaps it is due to the elevated stress levels and riding out that storm as a team, or perhaps it is because the students are older and a different, more mature relationship develops. Whatever it is, the VCE teachers are always as eager waiting for their student results as the students themselves, hoping that the students achieve the standards that they have set for themselves. Thank you to all staff that have worked at Mount Beauty Secondary College this year and contributed to the educational journey of all our students.

Some improvements will be happening over these holidays. We will be having painting and new carpet laid in the corridor, to finalise the roof works that occurred earlier this year. There will also be new carpet laid in 2 of our most used rooms.

In a year that has had its own set of challenges, I’d like to thank our families, our students and our staff for a great year of learning and growth. It has been wonderful to get back to a normal school life; to see families being able to attend school events face to face, teachers and students working
