Principal's Notes

Dear families and friends,

This week has been a fabulous week of exciting events. The students and staff have loved every minute of it. All these events take lots of hours of preparation and I would like to say a very big THANK YOU  and WELL DONE to Mrs Brabham, Miss Thompson and Mrs McNaughton for giving our students so many different opportunities. This week has focused on inclusion, diversity, positivity and community.

New Facebook closed group

We have decided to create a closed Facebook group for parents/families to limit the amount of sharing of our students in the public space of Facebook. This group will be used to display photos of students, events and school information.  If you are yet to join up, the link to join is on the Cavendish Primary School page.  Thanks to Merryn for setting this up for us.

Transition

On Monday, we held our third session of our Kinder transition program. Callie Leese and Trish Hurley on behalf of Parents Club met with our new families to get uniforms organised and answer any questions about school life. A very big thank you to Callie and Trish for their time. Miss Gray was also here to meet her new class for next year. She was really excited and can't wait to begin her role next year.

Next Tuesday, it is the state-wide transition day for all government schools. Talia and Fletcher will be attending Baimbridge College for the day. Eva, Max and Lexi have already completed their secondary schools transition days for the year. Mrs Brabham will be at Gray St meeting her new class as well. Both Miss Gray and Miss Purnell will be at Cavendish for our own step-up program. The students will also spend time in their 2023 classes.

School Council

On Wednesday night, we held our last School Council meeting for the year via WebEx. We thank all our School Council members for giving up their time and committing to help govern our school. The draft budget for 2023 was presented and accepted by our members. The finalised budget will be presented at our next meeting in the new year. We also discussed school ground maintenance.

Colour Run/Walk

What an amazing day! The joy and happiness on everyone's face was very evident.

The event begun with a sausage sizzle cooked by some of our wonderful parents. Then the students had a chance to play before we began our sponsored walk-a-thon to raise money for Revolve Recycling. Our final tally of money is not quite ready as we are still getting donations coming in. Hopefully early next week, we will have our final total. It is currently over $1000. WOW!! We had students, families and visitors all walking around our track. Also, we were very excited to have our local police officers, Paul McLean and Kel Flavell joining us for some fun. We had three very keen students (Lexi, Jack and Thomas) complete over 30 laps of running. Miss Thompson was kept very busy recording how many laps we walked/ran and combined we walked/ran over 108km. A fantastic achievement!

After a quick drink and rest, the Colour Run begun. As the students and families made their way through the obstacles and around the course, they were covered with water and colour powder. We had Karl with the fire truck, parents on the water sprays and powder. They made sure everyone got very wet. Please look at the photos in the newsletter, as they are wonderful.

Swimming Carnival

We will have results and photos in next weeks newsletter.

Have a lovely weekend
