WORK EXPERIENCE SPOTLIGHT

LAILA ZAPPIA - MALLEE FAMILY CARE

I completed my work experience placement at Mallee Family Care in their Accounting and Corporate Services department. I chose this workplace because I thought it would be interesting to see how accounting and record keeping strategies assist a large organisation. From this experience I hoped to learn more about what was involved in occupations in this sector and achieve a better understanding of whether it was something I wished to pursue in the future. I wasn’t sure what to expect from partaking in work experience, but I believe it was a worthwhile experience that other students should participate in as it provides an excellent insight into where different career choices can take you.

MAISEY SUTHERLAND - TWO BLACK SHEEP

I did my work experience at Two Black Sheep Cafe. I decided to do my placement here as I am interested in food and service. I was hoping to learn a number of different skills while I was there.  I learnt how to clean and set tables, make cold drinks, bring food to customers, wash dishes and clean.  Working in a cafe is hard work as you are on your feet and there is no time to sit down. I did however enjoy it and would recommend doing work experience in a cafe to other students. 

TIAAN POTGIETER - AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE CONSERVANCY

My time at the AWC (Australian Wildlife Conservancy) was the best work experience I have ever partaken in and can see myself being part of the organisation in the future. The AWC is a  non-profit conservation organisation that nearly has 13 million hectares of conservation area used to reintroduce endangered and threatened animal and plant species, advice private landowners how to environmentally friendly manage wildlife and control pests on their properties and control all types of pests and introduced species within the Australian environment. The people that I have met are extremely like-minded and share the same passion as each other, including me which made 

communication, teamwork and tasks more efficient and smoother. Another reason why I would highly suggest this to people who love animals and being active is that you go outdoors a lot and see so many different animals and not just a few. Everyday was fun and exciting and I never got bored of what we were doing. This work experience really helped me verify exactly what I want to do after school and it shows how important work experience is before making your decision on what you want to do.
