Congratulations to Winter Concert Performers

Congratulations to all members of our music ensembles who performed at the Winters Concerts on Tuesday 6 June. For a hundred or so of our music students, this was their first time performing with the instrument (or singing) in front of an audience. We were delighted that so many friends and family members came to the two sold-out concerts to support the musicians in their work during Semester 1.

Our next major school Music concerts are the Spring Concerts on Thursday 12 October. Ticketing and other information will come out towards the end of Term 3.

Beginner Strings Workshop with Carey Grammar

On 8 June, 30 students and staff visited EDSC to combine with our beginner string players in a workshop of learning some new music and rehearsing together. The Music staff from Carey had heard of our program and were keen to learn more about how the string program runs. It was also a nice opportunity for our students to make some new connections with other string players.

Term 3 Music Events

This year re-introduces some activities that we haven’t been involved in on a large scale since 2019. The Victorian School Music Festival is a huge event held at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, involving bands and orchestras from all over Victoria and wider. We have two bands (Symphonic Band and Concert Band) and two string orchestras (Chamber Strings and String Group) performing at this event through July and August.

Please monitor Compass for these events when they appear for payment and consent. Our ensembles are significantly impacted when students are not given consent to attend these excursions in a timely way.

Term 3 Staffing Changes

A number of staff are taking Leave during Term 3 and we are in the process of appointing suitable replacement teachers to take some lessons and ensemble rehearsals. As soon as we are in a position to announce these, we will do so.

Mrs Bruce’s flute students will have a replacement teacher for the first 5-6 weeks of term, and Mr Williams’s violin and viola students will have a new teacher for the duration of Term 3. Ms Eldridge will be taking on some of Mr Williams’s work when she returns from Leave at the start of Term 3.
