CLASSROOM LEARNING

2B's Reconciliation Week Artwork

During Reconciliation Week, 2B created a collaborative artwork of the Rainbow Serpent to represent collaboration, togetherness and also for a bit of fun!  They have now finished their masterpiece, which is shown below.

Buddies!

Our Year 6 and Prep students work together as buddies at least once a fortnight. The Year 6 students love the leadership opportunity, while the Prep students enjoy the opportunity to learn and interact with older students.

Last week, the Year 6's leapt in to help their buddies learn how to type! They practised typing their name and some High Frequency Words. Then, they sat together and did some reading. What great collaboration!

Year 6 Chance Games

The Year 6 cohort have been exploring chance games by creating and playing digital and physical games. We have seen dice, spinners and creative quizzes.

INCURSIONS & EXCURSIONS

Year Two Toys Incursion

On Thursday 8th the Year Two students participated in an incursion as part of our Concept Learning, 'Toys come in a range of materials, shapes and sizes. A variety of factors can change how they move'.

The students explored toy-based learning, experiencing the stories, facts, technology and design of a range of iconic toys.

SEMESTER ONE REPORTS

Teachers have been busy over the last few weeks writing report comments for their students, and moderating Teacher Judgment progression points using the Victorian Curriculum.

Reports will be published to the parent portal on Monday 19 June. The cover page of your child's report will provide information about which subjects are reported upon, and how to interpret the document.

We encourage parents to access their child's report, prior to attending Student Led Conferences on Wednesday June 21.

STUDENT LED CONFERENCES

As part of our reporting process, we will be holding Student Led Conferences on Wednesday 21 June. This is a pupil free day, where parents, teachers and students will have the opportunity to meet and discuss their progress and end of semester report.

All families should have received a notification via Sentral informing them of this process, and how to book. However, here are the key points to note:

  • Our Student Led Conferences will be held on site at Wembley Primary School.
  • Students are required to attend school with their parents or guardians for their conference of 15 minutes, to share their Semester One learning and achievements.
  • Bookings opened at 10:00am, Thursday 8 June and will close at 4:00pm, Monday 19 June. Please login to the Sentral Portal: https://wembleyps.sentral.com.au/portal2/#!/login and follow the link at the top of screen.
  • If you are unable to attend your child/ren's Student Led Conference onsite, please contact your child/ren's classroom teacher in advance to arrange to hold the conference over WebEx. Students will still be expected to join the meeting to share their reflections on the year so far.
  • Intervention staff and Specialist teachers are available for interviews between 8:45am and 4:45pm, upon request. If you would like an interview with any member of the Intervention or Specialist teams, please email Kristen at sentral@wembleyps.vic.edu.au as this will be communicated with our Specialist and Intervention teachers.

In order to ensure a smooth flow of the day for all, we ask that you note your interview time, arrive promptly for your interview and adhere to the allocated time frame.

TheirCare operates on pupil free days to provide care for students, if required by families. Bookings can be made directly by contacting TheirCare.

STUDENT SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS - SSGs

Student Support Group meetings (SSGs) will commenced Tuesday June 13 - Tuesday June 20.

Families that are involved in these meetings will have received communication from the school, inviting them to make a booking. If you usually participate in our rounds of SSGs and you have not been contacted, please reach out to the school office as a matter of priority.

1:1 DEVICE PROGRAM

ATTENTION YEAR 3 PARENTS - 1:1 DEVICE PROGRAM

We briefly highlighted our 1:1 Device Program in our last newsletter, in particular for the parents of our current Year 3 students. Our 1:1 Device Program is relevant for Year 4 - Year 6 students.

Next term we will begin the process of formally sharing enrolment and purchasing information with our Year 3 parents, and any parents of current Year 4 - Year 6 students who wish to purchase a device for their child, who are not currently part of the program.

Our 1:1 Device Program is an Apple product program, as this integrates seamlessly with our exisiting digital infrastructure. The devices available for purchase are:

  • MacBook Air
  • iPad

We partner with a company called Compnow, for the ordering and purchasing of our devices, and these usually include hardware, insurance and support bundles.

Having 1:1 access to a digital device for learning is both a great support, but also a privilege and it is important for all families to understand that participation in the 1:1 Device Program is not compulsory. Students who do not participate in the 1:1 Device Program will have access to a bank of school devices (MacBook and iPads) which are shared amongst those students who require them.

We often receive questions in relation to why we have chosen to work with Apple products, or why we do not offer a BYO device option; as we move into Term 3 we will provide comprehensive information about the development of our 1:1 Device Program, as well as responding to such queries.

ICAS

Each year at Wembley, we offer students from Year 3 to Year 6 the opportunity to participate in the English, Mathematics and Digital Technologies ICAS Assessments. These are digital assessments organised by an external provider, however we provide supervision and time for students to participate at Wembley.

For more information about how to register and pay for your child for ICAS Assessments, please refer to the email you would have received on June 7, as well as the PDF below.
