Katie Vranken

Dear Parents and Carers,

How quickly time flies!  Only last term we were thinking of holidays and now we are again! It has once again been a very busy term with many activities being held in and outside of school.

Some of the activities we have experienced are Anzac Day March and School ceremony, class and whole school masses, Fire Carrier Commissioning service, Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation,  Foundation and year 5 and 6 transition sessions, school assemblies, Phillip Island Camp, Cross country, Working Bees, Parents and Friends Meetings, Student teachers and Work experience students, ECOS incursion and museum/Imax excursions and many other activities over the term.

Among it all, COVID has once again touched our school as well as many other illnesses. With illness comes missed days of school for both teachers and students and although at times it has been difficult to catch up on learning and missed lessons, we have managed to stay mostly with teachers replacing classes, unlike some of our counterparts.  We hope that after a relaxing holiday we will all (students and teachers) come back to school refreshed and well.

Farewell Mrs Traynor!

As many of you know we farewell Simone at the end of this term as she ventures off on leave till the end of semester 2.  We wish Simone well on her adventures and we will see her when she returns next year.

We are pleased to announce that replacing Simone will be Erin Mullan (Monday/Tuesday/Friday) and Meg Urquhart (Wednesday/Thursday) until the end of week 4 (Friday 4th August).  We then will welcome Meredith Smith who will replace Simone until the end of the year.

Welcome

We also welcome Cassandra Darwall to our school next term. Cassandra will be working in the 1/2 classroom as a Learning Support Officer.

Farewell to the Hodges

This week we also farewelled the Hodge family who are moving to Queensland.  We wish Allison, Barry, Ethan and Eloise safe travels and the best of luck at their new jobs and schools.

Thankyou

Thank you to all of our families this term for your support and dedication to your children and our school.  We hope that you all get to enjoy the winter holidays with your loved ones and stay safe where ever you may travel.  We look forward to seeing you all next term.

Thank you also to the staff for their tireless work this term.  It has been a challenging one with illness, changed timetables, additional tasks to carry out, reports and parent-teacher interviews to finish a busy term.  All staff have earned a well-deserved rest!

Thank you also to Anthony for his work this term. Anthony has busily been working behind the scenes to make our cross-country track safe for our children to use.  With all of the wet weather, the clay surface has become quite slippery.  Anthony has mulched most of the track and placed stones down to improve the quality of the surface.  Anthony has also made a bridge over the spring at the back of the oval so that we can now cross this area safely and also allow the water to flow through this area.

This week we have also had 3 work experience students  - Kaitlyn from MLMC and Charli and Tom from UYSC.  We have loved having these students here at school with us. They have been very engaged in the activities within the classroom and have demonstrated initiative and have formed great relationships with the staff and students. We wish you well with your future studies.

Over the last three weeks, we have also had 3 pre-service teachers from the Australian Catholic University.  Each year we are fortunate enough to have pre-service teachers coming to work in our schools and learn the craft of teaching.  We wish Maddison, Emily and Chelsea all the best with their studies and hope to see them one day teaching in Catholic schools.

Lunch Orders

A reminder that there will not be any lunch orders the first week back at school.

Wishing you all a very happy holiday,

Katie Vranken
