Victorian Challenge & Enrichment Series

Ocean Sustainability

The Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series provides funded extension activities for high-ability students in Victorian government schools. Within this series, as part of National Science Week, KIOSC and Swinburne University provided our students with the opportunity to explore ocean sustainability through technology, coding and biology. Below, Year 7 student Hamish, reflects on his experience.

I was selected to participate in the Ocean Sustainability Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series which I enjoyed and liked learning about ways to help the ecosystem thrive though the three activities I did. When I was nominated for these events I felt very excited and eager to learn about something different.

Some aspects of the Ocean Sustainability activities that I enjoyed were the 3D decoys and moving the body parts of the decoy penguin. I also really enjoyed making the Bioplastics session, the experiment was engaging. But the thing that I probably like the most was that these activities are benefiting the environment and research to save these animals and their homes which is really cool.
