21st Sunday in Ordinary TimeYear A

23 August 2020

“You are Peter;
to you I will give the keys of the kingdom of heaven and earth.”

In Sunday's gospel, Jesus is wondering and asking questions to find out what people think about Him.  He asks all his Disciples 'who do they say I am?' and it is Peter who responds with 'the Messiah'.  It was then that Jesus knew Peter would lead the Church.  Peter had made many mistakes on his own path to following Jesus, but he kept trying his best - which is all that we can ever do as humans and believers in what is right and just.  We do not have to be perfect to be leaders and disciples, we just need to keep going.

Today we welcome a member of the Catholic Schools' Office Renewal Team, Anne Finlayson, to lead staff through a Twilight Retreat in St Brigid's Church.  This time is set aside at least twice per year for us to simply stop and reflect on our journey so far.  Each year, the Renewal Team carefully plan and present poignant contemplative meditations for staff in schools across the Armidale Diocese - and we are most grateful for this, however much is going on in our lives. Our theme for this event:  'I'm listening'.

God bless,
