A Message from the Principal

Mrs Pauline Long

Dear Parents and Carers,

On advice from the Catholic Schools Office we are cancelling the PT & F Meeting and School Advisory Meetings set down for next week. Despite not being able to have these important meetings, I would like to assure our school community many exciting things are happening at St Joey’s behind the scenes! We have been working on updating our School Website and it will go live in the next few weeks; we continue to have many maintenance items addressed for example we are updating the sandpit and adding a cover; repairing and painting seats and updating pin boards in classrooms. We also received advice from a very experienced landscape gardener and we are currently working on a long term plan to update the school gardens.

This week we welcome Madeleine Murtagh, a student teacher from the University of New England. She will be here for four weeks working in the Year 3/4 classroom under the guidance of Mrs Wilson. We wish Madeleine all the best for this learning experience and we trust you will have an amazing time.

An annual satisfaction survey of parents, students and staff will be conducted on behalf of all Catholic schools in the Diocese this term. The surveys are designed to gather feedback from parents, staff and students about our school and will be used to inform school improvement.  The surveys will be launched via email on Monday 31 August 2020 using the email addresses supplied to the school.

I encourage our families to complete the survey as we can gain important information to keep improving our school. However, if you are concerned about your child’s education in any way I also encourage you to ring and make an appointment with the class teacher or myself. It is extremely important we work as a team because we all want what is best for your children. Education is a partnership between home and school. This year it has been more difficult than usual to have our parents involved in the school but we are able to meet to discuss educational concerns despite the many other restrictions we currently face.

Don't forget to read the 'Focus on Learning' section of our newsletter. There are some amazing poems from our clever Year 5/6 students this week!

Have a wonderful week,

Take care and be safe.
