Primary School
Dear families
We’ve made it to the end of Term 3....somewhat unscathed I hope! I hope you are looking forward to and are ready for a very well deserved break from remote learning, schedules and screens.
I’d like to take this time to thank each and every one of you for your dedication, persistence and patience throughout this period of remote learning.
It takes a huge amount of sacrifice to help teach your own children with limited resources and time. We are so impressed with the motivation of our students too. We’d like to acknowledge you all for the effort and output during the remote learning period in Term 3.
I hope you all enjoyed the fun webinar this week featuring the very talented crew at kaboom percussion. It was joyful to watch the excitement on many of the students faces that tuned in!
I have attached a few items below. One is the second instalment to my previous post “Top 50 Things You Can Control”
I’ve also added a chart to help support family life through the holiday period.

Thanking you all once again for term 3!
Enjoy the break with your families,

5-6A SCHOOL HOLIDAY IDEAS
56A has helped to compile a list of things to do on the holidays, with some help from teachers.
Enjoy reading the document and trying out some of their ideas:
TERM 4 - BE SUNSMART - HATS ARE COMPULSORY WHEN OUTDOORS AT SCHOOL
The skin on your face, ears and neck is much thinner and more sensitive to UV damage. Choose a hat that provides good shade to your face, head, neck and ears.
For the best protection during the daily sun protection times, use a broad-brimmed hat.
When choosing your hat:
- look for a wide brim
or
legionnaire (should have a flap that covers the neck and overlaps at the sides of the front peak) - check the material: does it let a lot of light through or does it provide dark shade? A fabric with UPF 15 offers good protection while one that is UPF50 offers excellent protection. Even if the fabric is excellent, make sure the hat's overall design is effective too.
- make sure it is cool and comfortable.
Baseball caps are NOT a good option for everyday sun protection because they only protect your scalp and forehead.
In these Covid-19 times it would be safer for students to have their own sun hats rather than sharing spare hats.

KABOOM PERCUSSION - Primary School celebration
Our Primary School students had the opportunity to participate in an online percussion performance, as well as a workshop with student participation.
It was encouraging to see so many students come on line and join in this amazing opportunity.
Great ideas have been tossed around to continue percussion once back at school. Can’t wait to see what each class comes up with.

YEAR 3-6 CHINESE WORK
In conjunction with Qi Xi Festival that fell on the 25th August this year, students from Grade 3-6 were able to learn about the legend / folklore behind this festival - the Cowherd and the Weaving Maiden. Students were also given the options to either draw / illustrate the reunion scene of the legend, create a comic or storyboard of the story, retell the story or another noble love story that they know of.
While most students chose to draw the reunion scene, and included all the key details, Samara from 5C created a stop-motion movie of the story, Lilja from 5C retold the story through a little theatre display, Nina from 3/4A shared a Maori legend - Pania of the Reef, Mimi from 5/6A shared a Japanese legend - Tanabata, and Sari from 6C shared a different Chinese legend - Legend of the White Snake.
