ENGLISH

Congratulations to Years 10, 11 and 12 students on completing your English exams. Your dedication to these tasks has been impressive. For Years 10 and 11 students, be sure to reflect on your achievements and areas for improvement from these tasks. It’s important that you learn from the process and results in order to improve in the future.

Well done again to our Year 12 students for completing your English, EAL and Literature exams. Your teachers are incredibly proud of you and wish you all the best for the future.

As we approach the final weeks of the year, it’s important that Years 7-9 students make the most of the time they have in class to further build their capacity. Given the interrupted year we’ve had, our junior classes will focus on developing key skills that students have not had extensive exposure to this year. Our recent PAT test data reflects that certain areas of reading and writing require attention for students to succeed in their future English classes and indeed all subjects.

Happy reading and writing.

MY BROTHER JACK AWARDS

Earlier this year, several McKinnon students entered the My Brother Jack Awards, a writing competition that recognises the outstanding literary achievements of people who live, work or study in Glen Eira. Prizes were awarded for short stories and poetry in the categories of Primary; Junior Secondary; Senior Secondary; and Open.

We’re excited to announce that two of our senior students took out the top prizes for the Senior Secondary Short Story category. First prize went to Sarah Hatigan of Year 11 for her piece Don’t Be A Doormat, while Year 12 student Caleb Gering’s piece Main Road was Highly Commended. Caleb was also Highly Commended in the Senior Poetry category for his poem Evolution.
