GYMNASIUM

Our first site meeting was held with SwitchCo, the company appointed for the construction of our second gymnasium.

I am thrilled to let you know the work begins Monday 30 November and should be completed by August 2021.

This has been an amazing project to get off the ground and it is through the sheer hard yards of parents and School Council that has made this possible.  Rest assured it will make a significant difference to staff and students.

PEER SUPPORT

Our Year 10s have undertaken Peer Support training this week.

These are leadership development programs that staff invest much time and effort in to help develop compassion, empathy, communication and trust between students.

Year 10s will then be given an opportunity to apply for positions of responsibility to assist with the transition of our 2021 Year 7s.  It is a very rewarding program and I really appreciate all the staff getting involved and providing this skill development for our students. In particular, I thank Mrs Wallis who coordinates the entire program.

REACH FOUNDATION

We have enjoyed a long association with the Reach Foundation who we have engaged with over the years to provide personal development courses to our students.

On Tuesday they presented a thought provoking session to our Year 10 students encouraging them to reflect on their behaviour and the legacy they would like to leave.

A valuable learning for our Year 10s as they become young adults.

VCAL

In the Age this week there was an article about the VCAL Certificate being replaced.

John Firth, who was the former CEO of VCAA, has undertaken a thorough review and has made some key suggestions that the Government has an ‘in principle’ agreement.

There will be a move to an integrated certification that will be implemented progressively from 2023.

What is really important is that every student will be able to undertake academic and vocational subjects as part of their end of year school Certificate.

2020 SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA AWARDS

Each year School Sport Victoria (SSV) recognises several teachers and volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution to school sport in Victoria. I am delighted to congratulate Carole Hooper who has been awarded a 20 Year Service Award for her contribution to SSV over a very significant number of years.  Well done Carole on this wonderful award!
