Well-being

Well-being at GGLPS

It is essential that all students in the school feel safe and know that they belong to a supportive and caring environment. Well-being in a broad sense to us incorporates behaviour management, programs to support students socially and emotionally and the development of strategies to act responsibly and aid learning. You are encouraged to discuss these ideas and strategies with your children to reinforce what is happening at school.

Mindfulness

Sometimes I feel like I am banging on about the same thing and often look back to see if I have already written about this and if I have, how long back did I do it.

It obviously means it is important and sometimes reiterating similar things is a good way for some of those things to sink in.

I stumbled on this article, Focusing on Student Well-Being in Challenging Times by Marieke van Woerkom that I felt I had read over and over before but in fact, I hadn’t. It does though suggest certain aspects of wellbeing that I find are so critical to feeling well.

The article actually speaks about the coming out of the Covid-19 crisis and what should be promoted.

Mindfulness again is one of the key aspects and again I want to reiterate how important it is to find those bursts of time where your child can slow down, relax and just be in the moment.

Music and movement – both are great ways to help with feeling good, soothing and keeping fit and healthy.

Breathe – I know I’m a big believer in working on this and when needed having different breathing techniques and strategies are wonderful ways to calm down or self-regulate.

Whatever it is that works for you make sure that you have some strategies in place for the times when everything else goes pear shape. We all need it from time to time.
