Term 3 | Week 8

Our winter sport program concludes next week and despite it being a year like no other, the students have responded and embraced the concept of inter-house sport from our youngest children in Kindergarten to our Year 6 leaders.

The Inter-House football has been played with great enthusiasm and skill levels have increased enormously. Full credit to Mr May and Mrs Sharpe for all their work in organising the competition and a huge thank you to the students from 5M who set the fields up each week.

Mr May is now organising summer sport with Year 2 now being part of the program for the very first time and the introduction of European handball – a fast, active game – while we are also involved in local cricket competitions.

As you are aware, COVID-19 restrictions have prevented our musicals and dramas occurring this term. We are still hopeful of some relaxations to restrictions so that some performances can occur towards the end of the year as well as our musical ensembles. There are some great ideas being floated among the staff for an alternative so students can perform.

When we were younger our parents may have used phrases such as, “You’ll get square eyes if you watch anymore TV,” and the same could still apply nowadays with students being on “screens” from a young age. We are having more students having eyes tested and wearing glasses which is helping their learning. Eyes and teeth were once checked as part of student health checks in schools but now this doesn’t occur. With the greater emphasis on screen time it may be prudent to have your child’s eyes checked in 2020, “the year of screens!”

Last week our Pre-Kinder spent a day at the school farm, Windermere, and had a wonderful time in the great outdoors. This week, 11 of our students are back at the farm as artists designing a permaculture set up. We are looking forward to their input.

We acknowledged the following students for Week 7 & 8:

  • Mya McLachlan - Commitment Award (Week 7)
  • Crispin Downs - Citizenship Award (Week 7)
  • Milla O'Toole - Principal's Award (Week 7)
  • Alexandra Whitehead - Commitment Award (Week 8)
  • Hannah Cunningham - Commitment and Effort Award (Week 8)
  • Angus Sawtell - Commitment and Effort Award (Week 8)
  • Olivia McBeath - Principal's Award (Week 8)

Enjoy your week.
