Lab Team News

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the Lab update where I will be keeping you in the know about some of the exciting things happening in the Labs at JMSS.

To start I will introduce the team.

Firstly we have Anna Zonneveld. She is our lab manager and is responsible for taking care of all the safety in the labs, as well is the first point of contact for all questions when students are at the door to ask a question. Her background is Industrial Chemistry and Metallurgy and is very experienced in this field.

Next we have Nishani Rathnayake. She is an experienced Lab techs with 10 years’ experience at JMSS. She, as well as the rest of the team is one of the people who puts together the pracs for all science classes at JMSS. Her interests include biological science and Microbiology.

Now Eli Czerniecki was a student here at JMSS between 2016 and 2018 and has now come back to work as part of our lab team. She has a keen interest in Chemistry and Environmental science currently completing her double degree in Environmental Chemistry and Engineering at RMIT. If there is anyone with a keen eye out there have a look at the display cabinets in the labs. These were created by Eli.

Finally there is me Erika Trickett.  I am the Full time lab tech so you will see me around the place a lot. I will be putting together a lot of your pracs as well as helping in the classroom with all sorts of pracs, projects and any other thing the teachers need help with. I am also studying Environmental Science at Monash University part time.

For new and old to remember who we are here is ¾ of the team. Anna (left), Eli (Centre), Erika (Right).

Just a few notes for the beginning of the year…

Our lab office is located behind 1L4/5 and the door is in the back 1L3 so please if you have any lab related questions, or there is something you need help with please don’t hesitate to drop by and say hello between 8.30AM - 4.00PM. The team will be around for all the major year 10 projects this year as well as all the VCE pracs.

Please remember to bring your lab coat and safety glasses to school and leave them in your locker for the term. You do not need to take them home every time they are used as this is often how they get forgotten and you will be using them a lot this year, sometimes multiple times a day.

Please remember that food and water are not to be consumed in the labs. Water bottles are to be placed on the benches between the display cabinets during class and collected before you leave the room. If you forget your water bottle and the lab team finds it at the end of the day it will be placed onto the top of the lockers outside the room it is found in.

P.S! The frogs are back in town! Come past and say hello!!

From, the Lab Team
