Principal's Report

Welcome Back!

What a wonderful start to the school year. The word that sums up the first week for me is ‘happiness’. Students are so happy to be back at school, seeing their friends and enjoying the excitement of a new school year. Our staff are equally happy to be teaching in the classroom, getting acquainted with their new class members, and making the most of every day.

Our Foundation students deserve a special mention. They hit the ground running as soon as they walked through the doors for their first ever day of school last Monday. They have displayed confidence, eagerness, energy, curiosity, and fun. A memorable year lies ahead.

Our Year 6 students arrived at school to find their Year 6 hoodies and t-shirts waiting for them. The colours and style of these garments were chosen by the students when they were in Year 5, and the blue and purple is a great choice.

Congratulations to everyone for such a positive start to the year.

Keeping COVID Safe

We continue to be guided by the Department of Education and Training for the COVID-safe measures that we implement. Thank you for your promptness in collecting the rapid antigen tests. The next set of test kits (to be used across the two weeks starting Sunday 13 February) will be available from the main school office as of Wednesday – keep an eye out in Compass for details.

We are hopeful that we will soon be able to invite parent volunteers back into the classroom. Parent volunteers are a highly valued aspect of FPS – they provide great support to the children’s learning and also help to build community relationships. We will let you know once we can welcome you back in the classroom.

Slowly and surely excursions, incursions and camps are on the way back. We are liaising with the Department of Education and Training as we plan for next month’s Year 6 Canberra trip. Incursions have already been planned for Year 3 and 5, District Swimming takes place next Thursday and Year 6 interschool sport will commence Friday 25 February. It’s shaping up to be a busy and productive term.

School Contributions/Payments

Next week you will receive details regarding school contributions. One of the changes that we have made this year is to charge for excursions and incursions on a user pays basis. This means that rather than asking for an annual fee which covers all excursions and incursions for the year, parents will be required to consent and pay for each excursion and incursion before they take place.

Second Hand Uniform

Thank you for the many donations of second-hand uniform. Due to the limited amount of space that we have to display and store these items, we ask that no more donations are made at this stage.

If you do wish to make a purchase of gently used items, garments and bags are located at the end of the corridor, after turning to the right from the main school office. All items are $2 and payment can be made at the school office.

Environmental Sustainability Working Group (ESWG): Join the Team!

Meet at the fig tree - Thus 10 Feb, 3:45pm!

At Fairfield Primary School, we are committed to sustainability and making our school a more sustainable environment. As part of this commitment, we have a parent working group – the ESWG – dedicated towards making change on a systemic level.

Some of the achievements of this group include; LED lighting upgrade across the school, installation of environmentally friendly cooling options in the gym, upgrading our paper recycling collectors to local traceable companies, and projects to improve biodiversity and native planting across our grounds.

The ESWG meets twice a term and welcomes parent involvement.

The first meeting of the year is this week on Thursday 10 February, from 3:45 – 4:45pm. The group will meet under the fig tree for an in person outside meeting. All welcome!
