STRONG MINDS,

GENTLE HEARTS

News from  Frazer Rigby

Deputy Principal

I have the pleasure of coaching an extremely motivated group of young men in the College senior AFL team and much of what I have learnt about human behaviour, including my own, I first learnt through my participation in a team sport and team activities. They teach us many things, but it’s important to keep it in perspective.

That’s why Saints continues to offer a diverse range of sports and activities from which our boys can select something that meets their needs. Students in Year 7 to Year 12 compete in several co-curricular competitions which have offered wonderful competitive opportunities to our boys for 93 years.

We value their participating in the school’s co-curricular program, because their mental, physical and social health is improved when they do so. It’s significant to note that the proportion of our boys participating in co-curricular activities has improved year on year, over the last five years.

We provide our young men with great learning opportunities, including those involved in very high standard sport and activities, not because we need to win, but because we understand the value of the effort and commitment it takes to participate in our co-curricular program.

We all love winning, but there’s a bigger picture at Saints: the boys’ education and their development into good citizens with strong minds and gentle hearts. We believe that you can gain just as much from losing as you do from winning if you understand that the real purpose of the competition goes well beyond the scoreboard. The personal insight and social awareness that sport and other activities make possible is an invaluable preparation for life after school.

World Teachers' Day

Today, Friday 28 October, the College celebrated World Teachers’ Day, which is held annually in October. The day was created by UNESCO in 1994 and celebrates teachers worldwide. Its aim is to mobilise support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by teachers. The Student Representative Council organised a thank-you card and a small gift for each member of staff be they teachers, support staff, administration staff, grounds staff or those involved in boarding. In addition to this, the Parents and Friends Committee, on behalf of all Saints parents, provided a wonderful morning tea as a sign of appreciation to our staff.  It is no secret that the key to a good school lies in the teachers who journey with their students each day.  At Saints we have some of the best.
