We have now completed our fourth and fifth rotations of Year 7 Technology. The Design Technology unit looks at the process involved in designing, producing and evaluating a new product. The focus in Year 7 is a marble maze. The students design their own layout, construct the marble maze in the workshop, and then evaluate the process and product.
The best maze from the rotations will be entered into the Design and Technology Teachers Association Awards at the end of the year.
Mitchell Scarcella, who worked patiently and precisely to produce a well-finished product, was the winner from rotation 4. And Joey Little was the winner from rotation 5. He made a high quality maze though accurate and precise workmanship.

The Year 10 combined informal with St Monica’s College was held last Friday evening at the De Jarlais Pavillion at the Cairns Showground. The informal is an important part of the pastoral care program where our students have the opportunity to socialise and form friendships with their counterparts from St Monica's.
The pavilion was at capacity with 114 students participating in the event, and I am proud to report that it was extremely successful. The boys presented in appropriate clothing, displayed good manners and treated the girls with respect.
The evening started with a getting to know you game of picking the movie name from a group of emojis. This was followed by a delicious meal then a couple of hours on the dance floor which rocked until the 10pm deadline with most of the revellers covered in a layer of sweat. Jack Brunetto’s all night efforts on the dance floor didn’t go unnoticed!
I thank Ms Rogerson and the St Monica's staff for organising the informal and the St Augustine's staff who supervised on the night.
