Deputy Principal Report
Karen Whiting.
Dear families,
Sadly, this will be my last newsletter at St Cecilia's so I bid you all a fond farewell!
I have been teaching at St Cecilia's for the last 15 years and they have been very happy and rewarding years for me both personally and professionally.
It has been lovely getting to know so many students and their families (including grandparents and even pets!)
On Wednesday of this week, I was treated to a special assembly which Mr McKenna and the teachers had sneakily organised without me knowing! Each class made me a little book/ souvenir with ideas of how I can spend my retirement, poems about my work at the school, words to describe me etc. (NB I was pleased to see intelligent and kind come up a number of times!)
The drawings were also highly amusing of course- especially from the Foundation students! These are very special items that I will always keep to remember all my happy times at St Cecilia's.
At the end of the assembly the Year 2 students also sang a beautiful song to me - 'Cover Me With Sunshine' which brought a tear or two to my eyes!
I am sad to leave such a wonderful school community but am ready to spend a bit more time with my family, sleeping in, exercising, relaxing at home and holidaying down at the Gippsland Lakes in my boat.
I would love to come back to visit from time to time and will definitely come to the Fair next year.
I asked Mr McKenna if we could do STOMP dance lessons next year and he said we could! So I have booked them as my parting gift to you all (but Mr McKenna is paying!) and there will also be a concert performance on Thursday, 24th March in the evening.
I can't wait to see all the students enjoying the dancing -as we couldn't have a concert this year!
I would like to thank you all for your good bye gifts , friendship and support over the past 15 years and wish you and your families a happy Christmas and a relaxing holiday season!
On Tuesday after Mass the Year 6 students shared one last assembly with the younger students. They sang and danced and shared their memories of each other! We will miss them and wish them all the best.... as they journey on to their respective secondary schools. We invited them to come back to visit often!
After the assembly we took one last photo of all the Year 6 students and their Foundation buddies!
Any Lost Property items have been collected and left in the area just near the Sick Bay.
These include: school jumpers, track suit tops, tennis racquets and drink bottles.
Please ask your children to search there next year.
Upcoming dates
Please see the Upcoming Dates page or the Religious Education page for the Christmas Mass details and many of the dates for Term 1 next year.
Many dates for 2022 are also on the School calendar (which can be accessed via the School Website).
The starting dates for next year are there, along with various other dates such as the school terms and holidays.
Jannah Davies is looking forward to running her Drama club next year on Wednesdays and Fridays at lunchtime.
Tennis lessons will continue with Gerry Mustey at playtimes and lunchtimes- usually between Monday and Wednesday.
Her email address is gmtenniscoach@gmail.com
Mrs Stefania Miller will be running Junior and Senior choirs in 2022 and these will run on Thursdays and Fridays.
Next year, some students from St Cecilia's are participating in the Glen Iris District Swimming Carnival on Wednesday, 16th February.
In preparation, Mrs Teresa Galgani co-ordinated some training sessions late in 2021 so the students could try out for the St Cecilia's swimming team.
There will be further training sessions next year before school on Wednesday, 2nd February and Wednesday, 9th February.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2022 and beyond! ( Hopefully with no more Lockdowns!)
Kind regards,
Karen Whiting
