Lent

This week saw the beginning of the season of Lent.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting and prayer.

This year, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, has invited us to pray for peace in Ukraine

“in order to be near to the suffering Ukrainian people, to be aware that we are all brothers and sisters, and to implore God for an end to the war.”

During Lent, God invites us to do three things;

  • Give alms -give money or other help to those in need,
  • Fast - go without something you want or need for a short time and
  • Pray - spend time with God in prayer, in whatever way you can.

Each year, students are given Project Compassion boxes in order to “give alms” to those in need. Each week, we look at stories of people whose lives have been changed by the work of Project Compassion. These stories allow us to reflect upon how fortunate we are to have lives filled with peace and prosperity.

Keep an eye out for your Project Compassion boxes and may God bless you as you join us in prayer each day, by saying the following Lenten prayer.
