From the Principal

Welcome to 2022

Welcome to 2022, which begins in a slightly different way, with our Reception and Year 1 children on site, and our Year 2 to 6 children learning remotely. We also begin the year with a new newsletter platform. This is provided entirely online and is easily accessible from all devices.

We traditionally begin the year with this Welcome Newsletter prior to school starting. You will find that we have additional information in this newsletter to assist you with the change in situation for the first two weeks of school. Whether your children are beginning the year with us in person, or remotely, or a combination of both, I am glad you are here!

Important information to begin 2022

Detailed information regarding how COVID-19 cases will be managed is provided in this newsletter, please see the General News page. Families have the ability to translate into their preferred language, please see the drop-down menu in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen on a pc, or the bottom of the page on your hand-held device.

SA Health has provided guidance on how to manage cases of COVID-19 schools. There will be new contact tracing and close contact arrangements in education from 31 January 2022.

The new arrangements recognise the importance of providing quality education and care for our children while minimising the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

Schools and OSHC services will remain open if there is a case of COVID-19 under the new arrangements.

It is very important that you:

  • notify us immediately if your child tests positive to COVID-19
  • keep your child/ren home if they are:
  • unwell
  • experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms (even if symptoms are mild)
  • any other member of the household has COVID-19
  • they are a close contact for a person who has COVID-19 and are required to quarantine

Masks

We are strongly encouraging the use of masks for children in Year 3 to Year 6. Children will be able to remove them for play time outside, as per the current advice. Please send a mask to school with your child if you would like them to wear one.

Our teachers will be supporting and encouraging children to wear their masks as much as possible. We acknowledge that sometimes children wearing masks start to get quite distressed, particularly later in the day, from wearing them so much. Staff will use their judgement to make decisions between insisting they keep wearing, or giving them a break from it depending on the situation.

Whilst Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children are not part of the mask recommendation, our teachers are able to support with them wearing a mask if you as a family decide you would like them to do so. Please be aware that there may be more instances that the teacher will give your child a break from this in these age groups.
