On the 24th July Jessica Stevens, Pheobe Long, Charlotte Borland from Year 8 and Sabrina Murphy and Danielle Moss from Year 7 travelled to Morwell to the German Poetry Competition.  The girls spent class time preparing for the competition and were able to present their poetry to a panel of judges.  Charlotte Borland said ‘We all enjoyed ourselves. Lunch was delicious and the people who run the event were lovely.  Overall it was a great experience’.  The team of students were able to bring home 2nd place in the group completion. Well done girls and what a great effort.

20 Years of International Friendship

This year the College celebrated 20 years of International Friendship with our sister school, Yaei High School in Kanagawa, Japan. Twenty students accompanied by two teachers were welcomed to the College community and hosted by generous ‘host families’ for a week while attending classes and activities at school.

Student leaders and buddies assisted throughout the week helping them feel comfortable and welcome. The College’s sister school agreement is one of the longest standing in East Gippsland and continues to strengthen year after year. This year we celebrated by creating a Japanese garden with cherry blossom trees, camellias and a commemorative plaque. Activities included a visit to the Den of Nargun, Nungurner Primary School, the Buchan caves and a cruise on the Thunderbird, baking ANZAC biscuits, outdoor education and tents and trangias, AFL football clinic and a cultural exchange session. It was a very busy week, and we were sad to see them return to Japan. We’d like to thank everyone involved in the week of celebration.

Science Week Celebrations

This year Science Week runs from the 10th to the 18th August, 2019. To celebrate National Science Week the Junior Student Leadership Team is conducting our first Bairnsdale Secondary College Science Fair.  We invite students to conduct and report on a scientific experiment of their choice, and create a presentation about it. The presentation can be in any form that you choose (a poster is advised). Bring in your research to the Wurrin Hub to be displayed between 12th and 19th of August. All posters must be submitted by recess on Monday 19th August. We are looking forward to the experiments, creativity and displays.
