Teaching & Learning

Year 7 and 9

Students in Year 7 and Year 9 at Greater Shepparton Secondary College have had a terrific start to the school year, having the opportunity to experience our new and innovative curriculum. Year 9 students have had the opportunity to undertake their exciting new elective subjects. It has been pleasing to see students engaging with the new elective subjects that include community links, industry links, hands on learning, applied learning, inquiry, and a strong senior pathway link.

The Year 7 students have been enthusiastic about the large array of new subjects they can undertake with the transition to Secondary School. The students have embraced our new approach to teaching English and Mathematics, where a solid emphasis has been placed on collaborative learning and developing problem-solving skills.

Staff at Greater Shepparton Secondary College are excited to work collaboratively to create a new curriculum for Year 8 and Year 10 throughout 2020. We’ve started by introducing our new Professional Learning Communities. This is where all staff at Greater Shepparton Secondary College will be part of a team who have a strong focus learning, collaborative learning, collective responsibility and results orientation.

All students have started the year well in their Learning Mentor classes. Students have already begun to build strong relationships with their Learning Mentors and the new curriculum supports the 21st century capability of social and emotional learning. Learning Mentors are looking forward to positively engaging with our families and implementing our SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behaviour to Schools) approach to learning.

We look forward to an exciting term of new learning and we will create many opportunities for families and students to provide feedback on new curriculum and the learning that is taking place at Greater Shepparton Secondary College.
