Principal's Message

Today and All Their Tomorrows

In the closing days of my time as Acting Principal, my discernment has focussed on our Mission as a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice Tradition which exists with and for each young man who enters our gates each day. ‘Our mission is to offer innovative learning opportunities in a safe and nurturing environment which empowers our young men to realise their potential’. Your sons are the compass-point of our Mission, our Vision, and our Ambitions for them. As future-focussed statements, they are our beacon to the future. This week, the section of the Post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation below importantly reminded me not to ever forget that the future for our students is also with us today.

In Christus Vivit, Pope Francis speaks of young people and the invaluable contributions of youth to the present world and the living Church.

Within a conversation in Christus Vivit Pope Francis reflects:

Sometime ago, a friend asked me what I see in a young person. My response was that ‘I see someone who is searching for his or her own path, who wants to fly on their two feet, who faces the world and looks at the horizon with eyes full of the future, full of hope as well as illusions. A young person stands on two feet as adults do, but unlike adults, whose feet are parallel, he always has one foot forward, ready to set out, to spring ahead. Always racing onward. To talk about young people is to talk about promise and to talk about joy. Young people have so much strength; they are able to look ahead with hope. A young person is a promise of life that implies a certain degree of tenacity. He is foolish enough to delude himself, and resilient enough to recover from that delusion’.

Pope Francis tells us ‘we cannot just say young people are the future of our world’. ‘They are its present’.

My sincere gratitude and appreciation for all the support I have received from parents, students, and staff in my role over the last weeks. It has been a privilege that has brought me much joy.

Wherever the journey of this week takes you, know that our God

goes with you and Christ is your ever-faithful companion.

Live Jesus in our Hearts.
