Gifted Awareness Week

Gifted Awareness Week 2023 is celebrated from 20th - 28th May. Gifted Awareness Week was founded in 2015 by the Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented (AAEGT) to raise awareness of the identification, support and learning needs of gifted children and to celebrate the dedication of individuals and educational bodies who are making a positive difference in the lives of gifted children and their families.

This year's theme is ‘The Diverse Faces of Giftedness’. The theme is a continuation of the 2022 theme of ‘Like Minds’. The 2022 theme focused on gifted individuals finding their own tribe to support their social and emotional health and intellectual engagement.

In 2023 the AAEGT seeks to highlight the breadth of our gifted tribe. Gifted individuals range from mildly gifted to profoundly gifted and include socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic diversity as well as those with a disability and many whose giftedness remains masked. During Gifted Awareness Week some of our students in Newman Groups will be participating in Passion Projects to assist them to extend their ideas, develop questioning skills and learn how to carry out an investigation of one’s ideas or theories.

Tell Them From Me Survey 2023

As part of our focus on school effectiveness, Our Lady of Fatima Primary School Caringbah will be participating in an online survey for parents, staff and students called  Tell Them From Me® (TTFM®). The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what each group thinks about school life, how engaged they are with the school and the different ways staff interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve.

During the next few weeks, all staff, parents and students will be given the opportunity and time to participate in this survey. Students from Years 4-6 will complete the survey during regular school hours. Participants in the survey are provided with a random username and password to access and complete the survey online. Individual names cannot be linked to responses which allows it to be completely anonymous. Results will show all combined scores for each group – it is not possible to single out individuals in the results.

The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.  The survey link will be sent out to parents via Compass.

While participation in the survey is entirely voluntary, it is helpful to us as a school to ascertain student, staff and parent satisfaction data, so we can continue with successful practices and review those which do not enable us to work in partnership with one another as a Thriving Catholic Community.

If you would like more information, please contact the school office.

National walk to School Day

It was National Walk Safely to School Day today, 19th May. Parents were encouraged to walk with their children to school. Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes.  It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.  We hope everyone enjoyed their morning, walking safely to school.

Mother’s Day Stall

A special thank you to our school parent committee and parent volunteers who organised and provided a beautiful selection of Mother’s day gifts for our students. It was wonderful to see the student’s excitement as they chose presents for their mothers and grandmothers.

Mother's Day Raffle Winners

A big thank you to everyone who supported the Mother's Day Raffle for the Year 6 Graduation Fundraiser.  We hope everyone had a lovely Mother's Day. Congratulations to the following winners:

  • Mackenzie F
  • Emma R
  • Lenny B
  • Mac M
  • Marley C

Reminders

  • Please do not drop off musical instruments on Thursdays if your child forgets to bring them to school. They do not miss out on their lesson and this disrupts lessons by calling students to the office to collect.
  • Please label your children's clothing with first and last names. Items can only be returned to your child if lost when there is a name on it.
