Sr Brigid Arthur- Inspiring Love, Compassion and Action at Star of the Sea, College

As a part of our Religious Education, and Social Justice program, our year 12 cohort were fortunate enough to hear from Sr Brigid Arthur AO, one of the founders of the Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project and an important member of our Kildare ministries family. The organisation does not receive government financial aid so our students filled up shopping bags of groceries to help asylum seekers and to fill the depleted pantry at BASP.

Some of our College Captains shared their thoughts after listening to Sr. Brigid speak:

“Sister Brigid challenges us to 'change our lens' when seeing others. She emphasised the importance of diversity in society, especially in regards to refugees and asylum seekers in Australia.”

Lucy Williams - Fay Living Justice Captain

“Sister Brigid is a passionate humanitarian who encouraged us to think about the “rights” we would like for ourselves, and to extend them to others. She ignited courage in us to embrace our differences and change our lens in life.”  Olivia De Bruin- Stella Living Justice Captain

After listening to Sister Brigid, I feel passionate and motivated. She voiced the importance of being activists for change, and how we, as high school students, can make a positive difference within our community. Hearing about Sister Brigid’s experiences with refugees and asylum seekers was insightful and has truly changed our perspective on how we act.” Taylah Magee- Nagle Living Justice Captain

Sr Brigid's presentation was both rewarding and informative. Her in-depth knowledge and passion on the rights of refugees and asylum seekers was inspiring to hear. She truly brought so much wisdom, I hope she can come speak again.” Grace Orfenellis - Ave Living Justice Captain

Always an inspirational and impressive speaker, Sr Brigid had many challenges and 'pearls of wisdom' for all in the audience. One of which was..."What makes a GOOD teacher?" In Sr. Brigid's words, a good teacher  is.. "one that challenges you ... one that makes you think ... and not just about yourself." May we all be one of those 'teachers' - regardless of whether we work in a classroom or not.

Thank you Sr Brigid, for being such an incredible role model and motivational speaker,  you never fails to inspire us to be better people!
