🌍 Join the Plastic-Free Movement: Plastic-Free July! 🌱

Do you know that every piece of plastic that has ever been created still exists? 

Next term we will be participating in Plastic-Free July. As advocates for a sustainable future, we are thrilled to participate in this movement and learn how we can contribute to reducing plastic waste.

What is Plastic-Free July? Plastic-Free July is a worldwide initiative that encourages action against plastic pollution. 

The Plastic Problem Plastic waste has become one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. It pollutes our oceans, harms wildlife, and poses a threat to human health. 

How Will We Participate? At Hamlyn Views, our focus will be on:

Learning about waste: The difference between plastic waste and recyclable materials.  Exploring where different waste materials end up. Why we cannot continue using the amount of plastic the we currently use and how we can reduce the amount of plastic in our life.

Ditching the Disposable: Swapping single-use plastic items. Investing in a re-usable water bottles, re-useable straws and re-usable cutlery. 

Reducing Plastic In Our School: Finding alternatives to plastic wrapped individual items. Swap to reusable containers. Encouraging the purchasing of products packaged in sustainable materials such as glass, paper, or metal. Encouraging items with no packaging such as fruit and chopped veg. Reducing laminating around the school. 

How you can help: Discuss with your child about reducing plastic within the home, choose sustainable packaging when packing students lunch and encourage students to participate in this, reduce and reuse; gift or sell unwanted toys, where possible, 

Classrooms will be monitoring how much plastic is being used in the classroom and over the month we will aim to reduce this.

We will celebrate our efforts with a plastic free celebration day on Friday the 28th of July. 

Remember, progress is more important than perfection. Each step you take, no matter how small, makes a difference. Together, we can create a plastic-free future and preserve the beauty of our planet for generations to come.
