From The Principal
PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Carers,
Well winter has arrived with chilly mornings and cool days. Let’s hope for some fine weather over the school holiday break.
Fundraising Committee Update
A big thank-you to everyone that attended our Trivia Night on Thursday 1st June. We raised a total of $221. Over 50 people were in attendance, that included staff, parents and friends. A fun night was had by all. Many thanks to community members who donated prizes, Warren Dawson for being the host and the Fundraising Committee for all your help and organisation.
Our next planned event is a ‘Move-A-Thon’ on Thursday 14th September. It will include activities such as; riding, running, walking and so on, with Marty Dufty to coordinate. Sponsorship will be sought for students who participate. The school community will be invited to volunteer to assist and watch the events. More information to come.
Staff News
I am pleased to announce the appointment of an additional Occupational Therapist Cherie Sorrenti. She will work Monday, Wednesday and Friday commencing from term 3. We have also appointed Tahlia Kerger as the replacement Education Support in Foundation Blue when April Drew starts her Family Leave. Next term we also welcome Kelly Waye, currently at Armstrong Creek School, who will be the teacher in Upper Primary Blue. There are also some several other changes to the staffing in the Upper Primary and Junior Secondary area. Families and Carers in these classes have been notified. We currently have a classroom teacher position advertised on recruitment online.
‘I Can’ program
Yesterday I joined the final celebration day with secondary students participating in the I Can program. It was wonderful to see the confidence and skills they have developed over the 8 weeks of the program. Thank you to the wonderful facilitators and staff who were the safe people supporting students.
Student Attendance
If your child is going to be away sick or has an appointment, please make sure you add an attendance note via Compass. Otherwise you will receive a text message saying that your child has not arrived at school. You will also receive a call questioning why your child has an unexplained attendance. Please try and enter attendance notes prior to 9:00am.
Keeping Safe | Traffic Management
A reminder to keep a close eye on your children and for cars when dropping off and collecting students each day. Our crossing guard has reported several near misses and we want to ensure everyone stays safe each day. A reminder also, that cars using the Disabled Parking Bays are for those with a visible disabled sticker. This ensures access for families requiring this designated space for their child’s particular needs.
Semester 1 Reports and Individual Education Plans
Student reports have now been shared and I hope you enjoyed reading about your child’s learning and growth this semester. IEPs will be sent home on Friday 14th July unless you have been communicated with regards to a delay.
Early finish for end of term 2 and Curriculum Day – Student Free Day
A reminder that school will finish at 2:30pm this Friday 23rd June for the end of term and we have a Curriculum Day (Student Free) on Monday 10th July, the first day back for Term 3. The main focus of the professional learning for staff will be on the Writing strand of English.
Have a great holiday everyone, see you next term.
Regards,
Suzanne Armstrong (Principal)
