St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal

This term, the Senior School are collecting items for the Vinnies Winter Appeal. Our generosity will provide shelter, food, clothing and long-term support to people in crisis, just like Joan below. We are looking for non-perishable food items, sleeping bags (can be used if in good condition), new gloves, beanies, scarves and socks. Items can be dropped off to the House collection bins in the Library.

St Vincent de Paul are a lay Catholic organisation, working towards a more just and compassionate society, helping people in need, and combatting social injustice across Australia. St Virgil’s College are proud to assist this organisation by running this Annual Winter Appeal.

Joan was 70 years old when she became homeless.

After her beloved husband of 50 years died, Joan’s eldest daughter stole all of her savings, and transferred the house into her own name.

Then they kicked Joan out of the family home and left her on the street.

She was desperate, terrified and completely alone.

But the shocking truth is, older women like Joan are becoming homeless in record numbers.

They’re our mothers, grandmothers and aunts. They’ve cared for others their whole lives, and deserve to enjoy their golden years feeling safe and secure. Instead, they’re being forced to sleep rough and fight to survive.

This winter, women like Joan urgently need your help. Donate now and you’ll help provide emergency accommodation so vulnerable older women have a safe place to sleep. You’ll help give nutritious meals and warm clothing to keep them healthy and warm. And you’ll help give the support they need to rebuild their life – and escape homelessness.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea

On Monday 22 June, the Senior Staff are competing for bragging rights in St Virgil’s inaugural Greatest Bake Off to raise money for the Australian Cancer Council. Watch this space to see which staff member takes out the trophy!
