Week 4 Update

The mid-way point of Term 2 is nearly here and the cold/wet weather has begun to arrive, a reminder to families that all students need to be in full school uniform. The Uniform Shop is fully stocked and orders can be made onlinefor collection or bought directly on Monday 8:15am - 9:15am and Wednesday 3:00pm - 4:00pm.

Today our Year 3/4 students head off to camp at Normanville and last term our Year 5/6 attend camp at Butlers Beach.

LNPS has a proud tradition of hosting camps for our students. Planning and attending camps is a significant exercise and we would like to acknowledge all the staff for ensuring our students have the opportunity to attend a camp during their time at LNPS. Camps are becoming increasingly difficult for schools to host due to a wide range of factors, however, we believe they are vital.

School camps offer numerous benefits to students. Some of the key advantages include:

  • Experiential Learning: Camps provide a hands-on learning experience outside the traditional classroom environment. Students engage in various activities that promote practical learning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Camps encourage teamwork and foster a sense of connection among students. They are involved in group activities that require cooperation, communication, and mutual support. Working together in challenging situations helps students develop valuable teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Personal Development: Camp provides opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery. Students are exposed to new experiences, challenges, and responsibilities, which help them develop resilience, independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
  • Social Skills and Interpersonal Relationships: Camps promote social interaction and the development of interpersonal skills. Students interact with their peers, teachers, and camp instructors in a less formal setting, building friendships, improving communication skills, and enhancing their ability to relate to others.
  • Outdoor Education and Environmental Awareness:  Our camps take place in natural surroundings, allowing students to connect with nature and develop an appreciation for the environment. They learn about sustainability, natural environments, and outdoor skills while engaging in activities such as walking, aquatics, camping, and environmental conservation practices.
  • Physical Fitness and Health: Camp involves a wide range of physical activities and outdoor games that promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Students engage in sports, and adventure activities improving their physical coordination, endurance, and overall well-being.
  • Break from Routine: Camp offers a break from the daily routine allowing students to recharge and rejuvenate. They provide an opportunity for students to step out of their comfort zones, try new things, and have fun in a different setting.
  • Lasting Memories and Experiences: Camp enables students to create lasting memories and experiences. They form connections with classmates, teachers, and camp staff, and come back with stories to share, enhancing their overall school experience. Our Year 6 Graduate Speechs always feature students reminiscing about their camp experiences and how positive they were.

These benefits align extremely well with our School Values and Learner Qualities. We highly encourage all our students to attend camp and we are able to support families in any way to ensure attendance.

We look forward to seeing pictures and hearing about memories from the Torrens Camp.

Reconciliation Week

This Friday marks the start of National Reconciliation Week.

Reconciliation is a core priority for us as a school. Our students and teachers are leading the way by making sure First Nations histories and cultures are embedded in our school.

We continuously reflect on what reconciliation means and how we can strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples.

You are encouraged to embrace the theme Be a Voice for Generations. The theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, go to school, work and socialise.

A key part of our approach to reconciliation is our Reconciliation Action Plan which outlines key actions that we will undertake as a school. This has included our LNPS Acknowledgement of Country, Kaurna language sessions and artwork across the school.

Our next action was to develop an indigenous design for our school uniform that encompasses LNPS. This design is a collective of ideas collated from a workshop with students including keywords and design elements. We feel it fully encompasses LNPS.
