This term we have been learning about positive coping. Positive coping is learning how to cope with stressful and negative situations. As we develop we can feel stressed, worried, nervous and sometimes scared. Some coping strategies can be more useful than others.
We want to help students learn a range of positive coping strategies. This will help them develop and practice these skills and enable them to cope with changes and challenges in the future.
We interviewed some of our classmates about positive coping strategies.
Holly
We have been learning how to share positive coping strategies in our everyday lives such as getting organised and/or energetic activities.
An example of how this might help me in the future is showing me how to shift my attention from negative thoughts to positive using the coping strategies which we have learnt in respectful relationships.
A way this might influence my self talk is If I’m thinking positive thoughts then I will start to feel and act positively, whereas if I’m experiencing negative self-talk I will start to act negatively.
Sophia
This term we have been learning about coping strategies that we use in everyday life, in the most recent lesson we made a table with the coping strategies that we use.
In the future this will help us by knowing how to cope with problems in the future, personal, or with friends.
if I have negative thought it will impact my well-being and will influence my self talk negatively, vs if I have positive thoughts I will act positively to the others around me.
Luca
Recently we have started learning about problem solving where we learn how to efficiently solve problems in our day-to-day lives which helps devolved problem solving skills. We also have been learning about different coping strategies and how to deal with negative thoughts and emotions in distressing situations.
This could help me in the future in case I’m dealing with issues with my friends or personal problems then I could use the skills most efficiently.
A way this helps with self-talk is when dealing with problems I tend to have negative self-talk and as humans we are seven times as likely to be negative so I try to use different coping strategies to help turn those negative thoughts into positive ones.

We are the Visual Arts captains. We are doing this because we want to celebrate the great artworks of BBPS students. We chose these pieces because we thought that these were done by people that take pride in creating outstanding art. Another reason is because we thought that these artworks were really creative. We hope you appreciate these beautiful creations.

Why did you choose the colour scheme?
I created a volcano art piece. The orange which I chose was supposed to represent the volcano and I then used a lighter shade as the lava inside.
Tess
What inspired you to create this mask?
I like my clay mask because I took my time creating it, therefore I can look back and be proud of what I have accomplished.
Why did you choose the colour scheme?
I chose an abstract colour theme for my clay mask as I believe it is a unique art choice.
Maddy
What inspired you to create this?
In our Art class, We were creating a sun whilst learning about a famous artist. I thought I would create a colourful orange and blue collage of clouds in the sky to represent the sun going down at sunset.
Why did you choose the colour scheme?
I was originally going to just draw a normal sketch of the sun but I then decided to create a collage.
