University of NSW Band Festival
Congratulations to our Primary and Concert Band who performed at the University of NSW Band Festival on Sunday 26th August. It was an exciting day and the children really enjoyed performing to such a large audience. Both bands walked away proud having won a silver award. Well done!

Premier’s Spelling Bee Regional Final
On Monday 10th September, the finalists from Dundas Public School participated in the Premier’s Spelling Bee Regional Final at Jasper Road Public School. Congratulations to the following students for representing our school so proudly:
Junior Competition - Seryn L and Eden S
Senior Competition -James B and Kimberley L
Amongst tough competition and some extremely difficult words, these students handled themselves in an exemplary manner! With words such as sententious, adagio, impeach and sturgeon, even many adults in the audience would have struggled!
All four of our students enjoyed the experience and are now even more determined to compete again next year!

Coles Sports for Schools
The 2018 Coles Sports for Schools program finished earlier in the year, and we received our brand new sports equipment this week! For many years our students have talked about wanting soccer goals for the field and now we have them! We were also able to buy new soccer balls and corner posts.
We would like to thank our entire school community for helping us collect enough coupons to be able to purchase these fantastic new additions to our playground! Thank you also to Coles for helping us to encourage our students to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

Stage 2 Excursion
On Thursday the 13th of September, Stage Two explored the diverse wonders found at the Australian Museum. Thankfully, we had booked some comfortable coaches that had reclining seats and curtains on the windows. We visited multiple exhibits including Australian birds, Dinosaurs and Opals along with some other hidden treasures of our world’s history.
The children had the opportunity to interact, using technology, to delve deeper into the different phenomenon in each exhibit. At lunchtime, we had the chance to sit at the beautiful Hyde Park as a stage, chasing birds away from the terrified teachers and discuss their adventures with the other classes. What an amazing day we had, and a big thank you to family members who gave up their time to assist staff on the day!

Swim Scheme
Swim Scheme is up and running for 2018! The children have been busy refining safe ways of getting in and out of the water, treading for long periods of time and being able to float on their backs. Other different techniques that are demonstrated and practised during these sessions include freestyle, gliding and treading water. Teaching instructors have taken the time before every lesson to explore different scenarios that can occur around pools, beaches and other bodies of water. It has certainly been a great start to swim scheme and a good way to finish off term 3.

Colour Fun-Run
The P&C will be holding the School Fun-Run as a major fundraising event this year on Friday 19th October. The fundraising will go towards a shade sail for the village green.
Information went home on Wednesday, including instructions to go to www.schoolfundraising.com.au and create a student profile page. Everything to do with your fundraising revolves around this page. Once you have completed this, read through your Sponsorship Form, which has instructions on how to raise money and order prizes. Students who raise just $10 will receive a reward for their effort!
Further information regarding the event will be shared with community soon - but for now, please create your profile pages and mark the date in your calendar!
