Socialization Intervention for Children with Autism
A recent study out of Stanford University showed significant improvement in the socialization of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who used a wearable, google glass device in addition to applied behavioral analysis. The study is particularly exciting because typical therapies for children with ASD are expensive and thus not available to most of the population. The intervention in this study, however, involved an at-home device that "teaches children emotion recognition, facial engagement, and the salience of emotion...Results of this study underscore the potential of digital home therapy to augment the current standard of care." If interventions like the one in this study become widely available, there is hope for equity of services for children with ASD.
