Life Skills Self-Defense Class

Earlier in the year, Individual Needs ran a weekly program called Life Skills managed by Emily Wilson.  There was a variety of sessions held over the term, including self-defense.   This was one of the more popular activities for the term, as shown by some of the testimonies from the group.

“I really liked having this class due to sometimes feeling that I am being threatened, this will make me feel more secure and less afraid” Leigh, Year 9.

“I really liked self defence because the teacher was super nice and very helpful, Thank you” David, Year 8.

“I really liked learning self defence because it has helped me have more confidence” Sofi, Year 8.

“Self defence was awesome. I learned how to stand up for myself thanks to Julie” Fatma, Year 8.

“I have had Julie come out to our school twice now to teach our ‘life skills’ class some self defence. The students loved what Julie taught them. It was very practical but also very hands on and engaging. The students learned ways to de-escalate dangerous situations, and learned to use physical tactics only as a last resort. Students have already asked when we can do self defence class again” Emily, LIFE Skills Mentor.
