Principal's Report

2017 Debutante Ball
Last Friday night, our annual Debutante Ball was held at Taylors Lakes Reception Centre. It was a great opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate a milestone in the lives of our students. I really enjoyed catching up with past and present students and their families on the night. It is important that we all work together to guide and support our students, as they move through secondary schooling, and into their post school lives. I would like to celebrate the way that parents, extended family and friends did this for the debutantes and their partners on the night.
The event would not have been possible without a lot of work from our staff. I would like to recognise Ben Russell and Grace Hawke for their work in coordinating the event, and Maria Alexiou and Claire Mann for their roles in presenting. Debutantes and partners were presented to School Council President Yvonne Sebire and myself. I would like to thank Yvonne for again making herself available for this important cultural event in the life of the school.
I really enjoyed the Year 7 Barbeque a few weeks ago. Both the Year 7 Barbeque and Debutante ball have had a real sense of community in 2017. I look forward to this continuing at the upcoming parent student teacher conferences in the third week of Term 2 on Tuesday 2nd May. Please note that there will be no regular classes on this day, but we expect all students to attend the interviews with their parent or carer.
The School and Wider Community in Mourning
This week a tragedy has affected our whole school community, with the passing of Year 8 student Jalal. All of our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
His teachers remember a respectful and hardworking student. His classmates remember him as a good friend with an infectious smile. He will be very much missed by all.
We are providing support to, and working with, the family. Counselors and other support workers are working at the school to help students and staff.
