ACCIDENTS AND ACCIDENT COVER
Children will always have accidents. As much as we try to prevent them, they are an unfortunate fact of life.
When the bills arrive it often comes as a nasty shock that some expenses may not be covered by Medicare or private medical insurance. For example, did you know that if an ambulance is called for your child, that you, the parent must meet the expense?
Children’s Accident Insurance/ambulance cover policies are purchased by many parents as part of risk management for their families.
Please note the Department of Education and Training Victoria does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students.
Parents/guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs.
The Department cannot advise parents/guardians on whether to purchase a student accident policy/ambulance cover, or which policy to purchase. It is recommended that you seek assistance in this matter with an insurance broker or through commercial insurers.
