Annual Concert

Nicole Bull, Academic Dean of Music

Wow! What an amazing achievement and tremendous success the Annual Music Concert was on the night of Friday 17 August.

All students worked incredibly hard to make the concert such a success.  A huge thank you to all staff involved for your patience and guidance in preparing the many works.

Special thanks to our Music Captains, Ashleigh McMaster and Harry Millikan, and our Vice-School Captains, Aidan McShane and Eve Durand, for compering the night.

A big thank you also to all of the Junior School students for embracing the difficult Composer-in-Residence piece, In Eodem Spiritu. Their achievement was outstanding.

Congratulations to Ben Molloy for performing with the Saxophone ensemble and Owen Moy for his performance in the Stage Band. Both Ben and Owen are Year 5 students.

Congratulations also to our many soloists on the evening.  Well done to all involved!

The Annual Concert Experience

Matthew O’Leary, Year 9

On Friday night, I came to Robert Blackwood Hall for Kilvington’s Annual Concert, ready for what was going to be a wonderful night of music. It all started with In Eodem Spiritu, a composition by the Composer-in-Residence, Stephen Chin, performed by 101 instrumentalists from across all grades at Kilvington.

After a standing ovation, the night proceeded with some very moving and emotional pieces of music.

Some of the highlights included the Kilvington Orchestra, the Junior School massed singing and all of the Kilvington choirs. The night came to a climax with a wonderful and powerful rendition of This is Me from the Greatest Showman, a piece in which I was fortunate to be a part of.

Overall, being fortunate to be in quite a few acts in the program, the 2018 Annual Concert will be a night that I won’t forget quickly.

Year 7 Surf Camp to Lorne

Renae Bekas, Year 7

In April this year, Year 7 went on a four-day camp to Lorne. We stayed at the Surf Life Saving Club, right on the shore. This camp offered many opportunities to try new things, make new friends and work on our skills in many different areas.

Each day we went surfing. Many Year 7 students, including myself, had never tried surfing before. Even if we were a bit reluctant, all of us got in the water, tried the best we could and learnt something new! There were also many other fun activities like exploring rock pools and sand castle building competitions.

For many of the students, the most interesting and enjoyable part was the hike and the camp. We participated in a gruelling but scenic hike up steep hills, through rain forests and across lakes, and then toasting marshmallows and camping out for the night. Although it was absolutely freezing and it wasn’t particularly comfortable sleeping on thin yoga mats, it got us all closer to nature and we all liked it more than we would have expected.

Overall, Year 7 Camp has been my favourite camp so far. I saw and learnt so many new things, including what it’s like to surf and sleep in a tent, which I had never done before! I loved it so much, I didn’t even want to go home in the end. I am looking forward to Year 8 Camp next year!
